Stephen Watts was
appointed in January 2006 as HI~Arts' first Embedded
Poet, working on the theme of suicide in the Highlands
and Islands. The project is funded by Scottish Arts
Council, NHS ChooseLife programme and HIE.
Stephen was born in London in 1952: his
father’s family came from
Stoke-on-Trent,
his mother is from the Swiss Italian Alps and he has
cultural roots there and in Scotland. In the early 70’s
he lived on North Uist working as a shepherd and since
1976 has been working in Whitechapel in the East End of
London.
This DVD features the poet presenting
some of his work for the project.
